Paramount has released the first poster and two trailers for writer/director Jason Reitman’s latest Labor Day. The film is based on Joyce Maynard novel of the same name and is set over a Labor Day weekend and tells the story of an escaped convict (Josh Brolin) who takes a teenage son and his reclusive mother (Kate Winslet) hostage, but the relationship between the three becomes more complicated in the following days.
The trailer does a good job of selling the fantasy, idyllic quality while maintaining the undercurrent of ever-present danger running throughout the story. It certainly seems like a departure for Reitman who made a name for himself doing dramatic comedies like Thank You For Smoking, Juno and Up in the Air.
The cast also includes Gattlin Griffith J.K. Simmons, Clark Gregg, James Van Der Beek, and Tobey Maguire.
