Trailer for HBO’s True Detective Starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson

A few months ago, we first heard that HBO was developing the limited series that was written by Nic Pizzolatto and directed by Cary Fukunaga (Sin Nombre, Jane Eyre).  The beauty of the concept lies in its ability to be reborn each year with a new story, new actors and a rotating carousel of filmmakers.  Every year you’ll get something completely different.

The series stars Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson, Kevin Dunn, Michelle Monaghan, Alexandra Daddario and Elizabeth Reaser, and utilizes multiple timelines to trace two detectives’ hunt for a serial killer in Louisiana across seventeen years.  True Detective’s eight-episode arc will be built on non-linear narratives from the bizarre events of 1995 and testimony from 2012.

No question here that Fukunaga’s visual style suits Pizzolatto’s dark tones, dialogue and characters.  Check out the trailer below.  The show will premiere in January 2014.
