Pixar has released a trio of clips for their upcoming prequel Monsters University. The film is a look back at the origins of the relationship between Mike and Sulley and their days at Monsters University, when the pair weren’t necessarily best buddies.
Everything looks enjoyable – lots of Revenge of the Nerds vibe, which I’m fine with. My biggest concern is whether the material justifies a big-screen adaptation, or if this movie got pushed into production because it would sell billions of dollars worth of backpacks, coloring books, costumes and whatever type of merchanise Disney can put Monsters University on.
The film is directed by Dan Scanlon and features the voice talents of Billy Crystal, John Goodman, Steve Buscemi, Dave Foley, Julia Sweeney, Joel Murray, Peter Sohn, Nathan Fillion, John Krasinski, Aubrey Plaza and Helen Mirren.
Mike Wazowski and James P. Sullivan are an inseparable pair, but that wasn’t always the case. From the moment these two mismatched monsters met they couldn’t stand each other. “Monsters University” unlocks the door to how Mike and Sulley overcame their differences and became the best of friends. Screaming with laughter and fun, “Monsters University” is directed by Dan Scanlon (“Cars,” “Mater and the Ghostlight,” “Tracy”) and produced by Kori Rae (“Up,” “The Incredibles,” “Monsters, Inc.”).
