This red-band trailer for Eli Roth’s new horror / thriller Aftershock is just f#$%ing ridiculous. The torture-porn genre could have bled to death years ago, but instead it has evolved with the help of Roth’s own name brand. I’m not sure if he deserves thanks, but at least he knows his audience.
I’m not sure what’s more outrageous about this trailer. The fact that it’s set in Chile and follows the aftermath of an earthquake? Zero miners will be seeing this film.
Or how about the tsunami that manages to stealthily creep up behind the unknowing tourist? That’s the thing about tsunamis. You really shouldn’t underestimate their sneakiness.
No doubt this film will be a fast tracker to VOD and DVD. The film stars Eli Roth, Andrea Osvart, Ariel Levy, Nicolas Martiez, Lorenza Izzo, Selena Gomez and Natasha Yarovenko. It’s directed by Nicolas Lopez, who shares writing credits with Guillermo Amoedo.
In Chile, a group of travelers who are in an underground nightclub when a massive earthquake hits quickly learn that reaching the surface is just the beginning of their nightmare. The disaster leads to the collapse of societal norms, including murder, rape, looting, destruction of property, and other anarchic activities. The area is also hit by a tsunami after the earthquake.
