The most interesting, buzz-worthy films that we tend to get excited about always have ‘a thing’. By this, we mean the film is playing a unique angle that’s being approached in such a way that feels refreshing and creative. The story fueling Europa Report is by no means extraordinary. Though it feels familiar (“Oh! Life on Europa!? This couldn’t lead to bad things!”), it attempts to back its fiction with hard science. Early reviewers of the film have praised it for being the most realistic depiction of space travel they’ve ever seen. Not only that, but as the title suggests, its about the one moon of Jupiter which has the highest chances of life in our solar system beyond our own Earthly confines.
Europa Report stars Sharlto Copley, Michael Nyqvist, Christian Camargo, Daniel Wu, Anamaria Marinca, Isiah Whilock Jr. and Karolina Wydra. Sebastian Cordero (Rage) directs a script by Philip Gelatt (The Bleeding). It will become available VOD on June 27th, followed by theatres on August 2nd.

EUROPA REPORT follows a contemporary mission to Jupiter’s moon Europa to investigate the possible existence of alien life within our solar system. When unmanned probes suggest that a hidden ocean could exist underneath Europa’s icy surface and may contain single-celled life, Europa Ventures, a privately funded space exploration company, sends six of the best astronauts from around the world to confirm the data and explore the revolutionary discoveries that may lie in the Europan ocean. After a near-catastrophic technical failure that leads to loss of communication with Earth and the tragic death of a crewmember, the surviving astronauts must overcome the psychological and physical toll of deep space travel, and survive a discovery on Europa more profound than they had ever imagined.
