I’m pretty excited for The Muppets… Again. Though it has some big shoes to fill after the immense success of The Muppets (2011) and the group’s return from unquestionable mismanagement, I’m pretty sure that director James Bobin (also of the first) will have no trouble having entertaining us again.
The film, which features the return of its director, co-writer (Nicholas Stoller), composer (Bret McKenzie) and of course, The Muppets, features our fuzzy heroes caught up in a European jewel heist which is led by a Kermit-look alike known as Constantine.
When being interviewed by Entertainment Weekly, Kermit the Frog had this to say about the film’s plot:
The idea of this film is that our gang is on this global tour, and we’re selling out these grand theaters all over Europe—in Berlin, Madrid, London—but we sort of get into a little bit of trouble when we run across my Doppelgänger. He’s the world’s number one criminal, Constantine, and he happens to look an awful lot like me. I won’t tell you any more than that, but let’s just say mayhem ensues. They also visit Dublin , which was one of the last cities to be added to the list.
I’m not gonna ignore the fact that the plot of this film, sans the Constantine part, sounds extremely similar to that of The Great Muppet Caper, starring Charles Grodin, Diana Rigg, Peter Ustinov and John Cleese, in which The Muppets try to stop a jewel thief from stealing the famed “Baseball Diamond”.
The fantastic cast of …Again! will hopefully help its story stand apart from Caper. The film stars Ricky Gervais, Tina Fey, Ty Burrell and potentially Ray Liotta and Til Schweiger.
The Muppets…Again! opens March 21 2014.
