For every reservation that I can think of about Robert Luketic’s thriller Paranoia, I can’t help but think of how much potential the film has with Harrison Ford and Gary Oldman as corporate enemies.  A few years ago, the two created something special as nemeses in Air Force One.  When the tension mounted and the action kicked off, those two were a lot of fun to watch.  I’m hoping that Luketic doesn’t ruin the occasion for reunion because of spoiled potential.

Frankly, this film would have won me over a long time ago if it weren’t for Liam Hemsworth whom is a solid actor, but seems grossly outweighed here by the other actors.  Then again, maybe the “newbie” factor is just clever casting.

Relativity Media has released four new clips from the film, which also stars Liam Hemsworth as an ambitious young technologist trying to make a name for himself.  Hard on the trailer of espionage and criminal behaviour is Josh Holloway, who continues to be wildly underused, in my opinion.  Filling out the cast are Amber Heard, Embeth Davidtz, Julian McMahon and Richard Dreyfuss.

Check out Paranoia when it hits theatres on August 16th.

Synopsis

In this high-stakes thriller, Adam Cassidy (Liam Hemsworth) is an ambitious junior technologist trying to climb the ranks of telecom giant Wyatt Corporation. But after one costly mistake, Adam is blackmailed by ruthless CEO Nicholas Wyatt (Gary Oldman) to turn corporate spy by going to work for the firm’s top competitor, which is run by Wyatt’s old mentor, Jock Goddard (Harrison Ford). Adam soon finds himself delivered into prepackaged success, living his fantasy life of old-world boardrooms, private clubs, exotic cars, and all the spoils of Manhattan bachelorhood. However, behind the scenes, he is merely a pawn in Wyatt’s power play, and must search for a way out from under his boss, who will stop at nothing, even murder, to gain a multi-billion dollar advantage.
