Universal has released some new promotional material for Joseph Kosinski’s upcoming sci-fi pic Oblivion. The featurette focuses on Kosinski’s preference to keep as much of the films visual effects in the camera, opposed to doing them all in post. The example used is the sky tower, where instead of using the traditional blue screen as a background, they projected actual footage around the set. During pre-production they took a crew to Hawaii and filmed on top of the Haleakala volcano where they captured moving clouds. Very interesting stuff.
Tom Cruise stars in Oblivion, an original and groundbreaking cinematic event from the director of TRON: Legacy and the producer of Rise of the Planet of the Apes. On a spectacular future Earth that has evolved beyond recognition, one man’s confrontation with the past will lead him on a journey of redemption and discovery as he battles to save mankind.
