20th Century Fox has released a new trailer and character posters for director James Mangold’s upcoming Wolverine adaptation, fittingly titled The Wolverine. The film centers around the title character in isolation after the events from X-Men 3: The Last Stand, when someone from his past recruits him to modern day Japan, where Logan (Hugh Jackman) encounters an old enemy.
This is by far the best trailer we’ve seen for The Wolverine. Hugh Jackman as Logan will always get me into the theater, but the footage we’ve seen so far isn’t at the same level as other top-tier comic adaptations Iron Man 3 and Man of Steel. I hope this doesn’t get lost in the rolodex of blockbusters coming out in the next few months.
The cast includes Will Yun Lee, Hiroyuki Sanada, Brian Tee, Rila Fukushima, Tao Okamoto, Svetlana Khodchenkova and Famke Janssen.
Based on the celebrated comic book arc, this epic action-adventure takes Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), the most iconic character of the X-Men universe, to modern-day Japan. Out of his depth in an unknown world, he will face a host of unexpected and deadly opponents in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed. Vulnerable for the first time and pushed to his physical and emotional limits, he confronts not only lethal samurai steel but also his inner struggle against his own immortality. Story by Christopher McQuarrie.
