Warner Bros. has released a new trailer for Peter Jackson’s latest venture into middle-earth The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. The trailer contains a ton of action and plenty of new footage. The highlight is Benedict Cumberbatch’s chilling voice of Smaug the Dragon. We also get a look at Luke Evans as Bard the Bowman, Evangeline Lilly and Orlando Bloom as elves, plus the Mirkwood spiders.
A year ago, The Hobbit was one of the most Hollywood most pristine franchises around and that means a lot in this new era of juggernaut franchises. Unfortunately, there is a stench around The Hobbit after the underwhelming first film and the decisions made splitting one book into 3 films or 48 FPS. Hopefully, Jackson and company can rebound in the middle film of the new trilogy.
The cast includes Ian McKellen, Martin Freeman, Richard Armitage, Cate Blanchett, Christopher Lee, Hugo Weaving, John Bell and Jed Brophy.
The second in a trilogy of films adapting the enduringly popular masterpiece The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug continues the adventure of the title character Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) as he journeys with the Wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellan) and thirteen Dwarves, led by Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) on an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor.
