Paramount has released a new trailer for J.J. Abrams’s upcoming Star Trek sequel. If this turns out to be Abrams’s last Star Trek film, he has certainly transformed the struggling property into an action franchise. I’m not saying that’s a good or bad thing; it all depends on what Star Trek is to you.
This latest trailer is action-packed and focuses on the difficulty of being around Captain Kirk (Chris Pine). We still don’t know too much about the film outside of Kirk being on the hunt for fugitive John Harrison (Benedict Cumberbatch) and that there will be lots of action set pieces sprinkled with humor.
The cast also includes Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, John Cho, Bruce Greenwood and Peter Weller.
In Summer 2013, pioneering director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes Star Trek Into Darkness. When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis. With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew. © 2012 PARAMOUNT PICTURES.
