Warner Brothers has released a new action-centered trailer for Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. The film is the second of three film’s based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s classic The Hobbit. While we returned to Middle-earth last year, there’s no denying that the excessively drawn-out, high-frame rate, CGI-filled first installment of Peter Jackson‘s The Hobbit trilogy made for one of the more disappointing blockbusters in recent memory.
I think most fans are committed to the Peter Jackson middle-earth brand and will return, especially if this effort is better received. In Jackson’s defense, the weakest film of The Lord of the Rings trilogy was Fellowship so maybe it takes his an excessive amount of time establishing characters.
The cast includes Martin Freeman, Ian McKellan, Orlando Bloom, Evangeline Lilly, Luke Evans, Richard Armitage, Lee Pace, Andy Serkis, John Bell, Jed Brophy, Adam Brown, John Callen, Stephen Fry, Ryan Gage, Mark Hadlow, Peter Hambleton, Stephen Hunter, William Kircher, Sylvester McCoy, Graham McTavish, Michael Mizrahi, James Nesbitt, Dean O’Gorman, Mikael Persbrandt, Ken Stott, and Aidan Turner.
The second in a trilogy of films adapting the enduringly popular masterpiece The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug continues the adventure of the title character Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) as he journeys with the Wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellan) and thirteen Dwarves, led by Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) on an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor.
