Tristar has released a new trailer for director Paul W.S. Anderson’s upcoming period disaster film Pompeii. The film is set in 79 AD. and centers around a slave gladiator (Game of Thrones star Kit Harington) of a shipping tycoon who dreams of buying his freedom and marrying his master’s daughter (Emily Browning), who has been unwillingly promised to a corrupt Roman Senator. All of this happening in the days ahead of Mt. Vesuvius erupting.
Kudos to Anderson, the guy has never made a great movie; arguably a good movie in his 15 year directing career and yet people are still giving him blank cheques to make CGI-filled movies. I wish he made better movies but I can’t get mad at him. It’s not like he is an inconsistent filmmaker or anything, he delivers what’s expected. Looks like a little Romeo & Juliet, Spartacus/Gladiator-vibe and 300 visual effects.
The supporting cast includes Carrie-Anne Moss, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Paz Vega, Jessica Lucas, Jared Harris and Kiefer Sutherland.
Set in 79 A.D., POMPEII tells the epic story of Milo (Kit Harington), a slave turned invincible gladiator who finds himself in a race against time to save his true love Cassia (Emily Browning), the beautiful daughter of a wealthy merchant who has been unwillingly betrothed to a corrupt Roman Senator. As Mount Vesuvius erupts in a torrent of blazing lava, Milo must fight his way out of the arena in order to save his beloved as the once magnificent Pompeii crumbles around him.
