20th Century Fox has released a new trailer for the upcoming 3D CGI animated Epic. The film is an adaptation of William Joyce’s children’s book The Leaf Men and centers around Mary Katherine (Amanda Seyfried) who finds herself transported to a deep forest setting where a battle between the forces of good and evil is taking place and she helps bring together a rag-tag group of characters in order to save the world.
After watching the trailer, I think of it as a mix of Avatar/Fern Gully and Honey I Shrunk The Kids. The film comes from the same studio that did Ice Age, Rio and Robots so they know what they’re doing and have a pretty solid track record.
I’m not sure if releasing the film in May is the best plan. May 2013 could go down as the greatest month of summer blockbusters ever with Iron Man 3, The Great Gatsby, Fast & Furious 6, Star Trek Into Darkness and The Hangover Part III. Fast & Furious 6 and Hangover open the same weekend as Epic. If I worked for Fox I would worry Epic would get lost in the shuffle of blockbuster franchises.
The film also includes the voice talents of Colin Farrell, Josh Hutcherson, Christoph Waltz, Pitbull, Jason Sudeikis, Steven Tyler, Aziz Ansari, Blake Anderson, Judah Friedlander and Beyoncé Knowles.
EPIC is a 3D CG action-adventure comedy that reveals a hidden world unlike any other. From the creators of ICE AGE and RIO, EPIC tells the story of an ongoing battle deep in the forest between the forces of good who keep the natural world alive and the forces of evil who wish to destroy it. When a teen age girl finds herself magically transported into this secret universe, she must band together with a rag-tag team of fun and whimsical characters in order to save their world… and ours.
