Universal has released two new posters and a trailer for director Joseph Kosinski’s (2010’s TRON: Legacy) sci-fi epic Oblivion. The film centers around a drone repairman (Tom Cruise) on a dystopian Earth who begins to question everything he knows after discovering a crashed spaceship. This is going to look awfully pretty on an IMAX screen.
Kosinski has said Oblivion is supposed to be more of a character study than anything else. We’ve seen Cruise play this kind of lone wolf role before, and Morgan Freeman making speeches is always a good sign.
Jack Reacher marked the 19th time in Tom Cruise’s career that his films have grossed over $200 million worldwide and it’s a safe bet Oblivion will be his 20th.
The cast also includes Olga Kurylenko, Andrea Riseborough, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Melissa Leo.
Tom Cruise stars in Oblivion, an original and groundbreaking cinematic event from the director of TRON: Legacy and the producer of Rise of the Planet of the Apes. On a spectacular future Earth that has evolved beyond recognition, one man’s confrontation with the past will lead him on a journey of redemption and discovery as he battles to save mankind.
