A new stirring red-band trailer for director Fredrik Bond’s Charlie Countryman has been released. The plot centers around the title character played by Shia LaBeouf’s trip to Bucharest where he falls in love with a young woman (Evan Rachel Wood) claimed by a vicious gangster (Mads Mikkelsen). We should all know by now don’t mess with Mikkelsen. It is an interesting trailer and looks like it could develop a bit of a cult audience, if it delivers.
I’m team Shia and think he catches an unreasonable amount of hate from the online-community. Its not his fault the Transformers franchise was directed by Michael Bay or that Crystal Skull stunk. They would have been awful with anyone in those roles. Over the last couple years he has been working hard to establish more credibility as an actor and not just a movie star. So far the results have been mixed but progress is being made and hopefully this is another positive step.
The supporting cast also includes Melissa Leo, Rupert Grint, James Buckley, Til Schweiger, Vincent D’Onofrio and John Hurt.
When his late mother appears in a vision and tells him to go to Bucharest, Charlie immediately boards a plane across the Atlantic. But when he meets a fellow passenger, Charlie finds himself with another promise to fulfill. Charlie does so—and falls head over heels in love with Gabi, a beautiful musician. However, a vicious gangster has already laid claim to Gabi, and has no intention of letting her go. Determined to protect her, Charlie enters into the hallucinatory, Romanian underworld filled with violence and, strangely enough, love.
