Sony Pictures has released a new trailer for Roland Emmerich’s secret service action film White House Down. The plot centers around a secret service applicant (Channing Tatum) touring the White House with his daughter when a group of heavily armed mercenaries attack the White House and he’s the only person who can rescue the President (Jamie Foxx).
I can’t help but think if this was made 10-15 years ago it would star Bruce Willis and Sam Jackson. I couldn’t get Die Hard: With a Vengeance out of my head while watching the trailer. It looks a lot like a fun buddy cop movie, and I really don’t think this will receive much critical acclaim (nor is it aspiring to critical acclaim). I base that on Emmerich’s track record which includes 2012, 10,000 B.C. and 1998’s Godzilla.
The keys to this being a ‘fun’ are the chemistry between Tatum and Foxx and action set pieces. This will be an interesting test of the star power Tatum and Foxx have earned over the last few years.
The supporting cast includes Maggie Gyllenhaal, Jason Clarke, Richard Jenkins and James Woods.
In Columbia Pictures’ White House Down, Capitol Policeman John Cale (Channing Tatum) has just been denied his dream job with the Secret Service of protecting President James Sawyer (Jamie Foxx). Not wanting to let down his little girl with the news, he takes her on a tour of the White House, when the complex is overtaken by a heavily armed paramilitary group. Now, with the nation’s government falling into chaos and time running out, it’s up to Cale to save the president, his daughter, and the country.
