Disney has unveiled a new trailer for director James Bobin‘s upcoming Muppets Most Wanted. In the sequel, the gang is on a successful tour in Europe when Kermit is replaced by his jewel-heisting doppelganger, Constantine, who’s fresh out of a Russian prison. The film stars Ricky Gervais, Tina Fey, and Ty Burrell. The film film also features cameos from Celine Dion, Salma Hayek, Ray Liotta, P. Diddy, and Danny Trejo.
As much as I love The Muppets, I’m a little scared about this film. Between the “must get Kermit back” and “thieves stealing most important jewel ever” plot points, Most Wanted seems to be a perfect blend of The Muppets Take Manhattan and The Great Muppet Caper. Will there be enough new material to explore and make this feel as fresh as its 2011 predecessor? I truly hope these trailers aren’t doing the final cut justice.
Muppets Most Wanted opens March 21, 2014. Check out the latest trailer and new pics below.
Disney’s “Muppets Most Wanted” takes the entire Muppets gang on a global tour, selling out grand theaters in some of Europe’s most exciting destinations, including Berlin, Madrid and London. But mayhem follows the Muppets overseas, as they find themselves unwittingly entangled in an international crime caper headed by Constantine—the World’s Number One Criminal and a dead ringer for Kermit—and his dastardly sidekick Dominic, aka Number Two, portrayed by Ricky Gervais, creator of “Derek” and the Golden Globe®- and Emmy®-winning series “The Office” and “Extras.” The film stars Golden Globe-, Emmy- and SAG Award®-winning actress and writer Tina Fey (“30 Rock,” “Mean Girls,” “Date Night”) as Nadya, a feisty prison guard, and Emmy Award winner Ty Burrell (TV’s “Modern Family”) as Interpol agent Jean Pierre Napoleon.
