Fox has released a new international trailer for director James Mangold’s The Wolverine. The film is based on the Chris Claremont/Frank Miller limited series that finds Logan in modern day Japan, where he encounters the Yashida clan and an enemy from his past who will leave him changed forever.
They already have my money, but this release date concerns me. Looking at all the blockbuster films coming out in the preceding two months, I wonder if this can live up to its box office competition.
Hugh Jackman as Logan/Wolverine is arguably the greatest casting in the history of comic book films (Heath Ledger fans are giving me the finger, but Jackman has played this character 7 times), so there is an element of character/brand loyalty, but these trailers have been very underwhelming.
The supporting cast includes Will Yun Lee, Svetlana Khodchenkova, Hiroyuki Sanada, Hal Yamanouchi, Tao Okamoto, Rila Fukushima and Brian Tee.
Based on the celebrated comic book arc, this epic action-adventure takes Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), the most iconic character of the X-Men universe, to modern-day Japan. Out of his depth in an unknown world, he will face a host of unexpected and deadly opponents in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed. Vulnerable for the first time and pushed to his physical and emotional limits, he confronts not only lethal samurai steel but also his inner struggle against his own immortality. Story by Christopher McQuarrie.
