Warner Brothers has released a new international trailer for their completely unnecessary cash grabbing sequel 300: Rise of an Empire. Director Noam Murro takes over directing duties from Zack Snyder. The film is based on Frank Miller’s latest graphic novel Xerxes and follows Themistocles (Sean Sullivan) battling the massive invading army of Persians led by mortal-turned-god Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro).
Kudos to the trailers for tying in the events of Zack Snyder’s 300 to this film well introducing the newcomers to the franchise. In the sequel the battlefield will now be the sea. The visuals look fantastic and appears there will be no shortage of violence. I really hope this does well, the original helped launch the careers of Gerard Butler, Lena Heady and Michael Fassbender. Maybe it will do the same for rumored Batman candidate Sullivan.
The supporting cast includes Eva Green, Lena Headey, Hans Matheson, David Wenham, Igal Nao, Callan Mulvey, Jack O’Connell and Andrew Tiernan.
Based on Frank Miller’s latest graphic novel Xerxes and told in the breathtaking visual style of the blockbuster “300,” this new chapter of the epic saga takes the action to a fresh battlefield—on the sea—as Greek general Themistokles (Sullivan Stapleton) attempts to unite all of Greece by leading the charge that will change the course of the war. “300: Rise of an Empire” pits Themistokles against the massive invading Persian forces led by mortal-turned-god Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro), and Artemesia (Eva Green), vengeful commander of the Persian navy.
