Lionsgate has released a new featurette for director Francis Lawrence upcoming sequel The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. The film starts off a few months after the events of The Hunger Games and centers around President Show trying to smash a budding rebellion following Katniss and Peeta’s victory.
The featurette highlights that the film will transfer from standard camera to IMAX cameras when the contestants enter the new arena, should be a nice touch. I liked the first film enough and am curious if there will be any noticeable changes in style and tone with Lawrence taking over from Gary Ross. Advance tickets are already on sale and early projections have the film grossing $160 million domestically in its opening weekend.
The cast includes Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Sam Claflin, Jena Malone, Elizabeth Banks, Woody Harrelson, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Stanley Tucci, Jeffrey Wright, Amanda Plummer and Donald Sutherland.
THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell)—a competition that could change Panem forever.
