Sony has released a new featurette for White House Down focusing on director Roland Emmerich. The film centers around a Secret Service applicant (Channing Tatum) who must save the President (Jamie Foxx) when a heavily-armed paramilitary group attempts to takes over the White House.
This is one of the wildcard movies of the summer. The film isn’t a sequel or based on any source material. A big-budget action stand-alone action flick is a rarity in Hollywood in 2013. Tatum’s and Foxx’s star power, and special effects, are selling this; hopefully it works out. Director Emmerich has had success with summer action flicks over his 20-year career, highlighted by Independence Day in 1996.
The supporting cast includes Maggie Gyllenhaal, Jason Clarke, Richard Jenkins and James Woods.
In Columbia Pictures’ White House Down, Capitol Policeman John Cale (Channing Tatum) has just been denied his dream job with the Secret Service of protecting President James Sawyer (Jamie Foxx). Not wanting to let down his little girl with the news, he takes her on a tour of the White House, when the complex is overtaken by a heavily armed paramilitary group. Now, with the nation’s government falling into chaos and time running out, it’s up to Cale to save the president, his daughter, and the country.
