Film District has released a new behind-the-scenes featurette for Spike Lee’s upcoming remake of Park Chan-wook’s 2003 film of the same name Oldboy. The film centers around Joe Doucet (Josh Brolin), kidnapped and locked up for an unknown reason is released twenty years later without an explanation. When released, he embarks on an obsessive mission to find his detainer.
I can’t remember the last time a film had this much to live up to. The 2003 film is one of the greatest (arguably the greatest) revenge flick of all-time. I’m trying to keep my expectations in check; Spike Lee is a talented filmmaker and smart guy he wouldn’t take on this project unless he had something to add.
There is plenty of new footage as well as interviews with Lee, Brolin, writer Mark Protosevich and supporting stars Samuel L. Jackson, Elizabeth Olsen, Michael Imperioli and villainous Sharlto Copley. The film opens in theaters November 27th.
OLDBOY is a provocative, visceral thriller that follows the story of an advertising executive (Josh Brolin) who is abruptly kidnapped and held hostage for 20 years in solitary confinement. When he is inexplicably released, he embarks on an obsessive mission to discover who orchestrated his bizarre and torturous punishment only to find he is still trapped in a web of conspiracy and torment.
