Neill Blomkamp’s ‘Elysium’ Gets A Poster & Update

It’s been a long time coming.  We’ve gone months wandering a land devoid of updates about Neill Blomkamp’s anticipated follow-up to his first class directorial debut District 9.  This land is boring, barren and just sucks.  Finally, we get an update!

Thanks to a few internet sources who attended a Sony Pictures promo event for Elysium, we’ve got the first official poster. The image reveals the mechanics attached to Matt Damon’s back which, as we can gather, are meant to keep him alive.  However, as the film progresses, he learns to use them as a weapon.  Sounds like Blomkamp is carrying over some more of his fun and spectacular ideas about futuristic weaponry and methods of destruction that made District 9 so much fun.

Elysium opens on August 9 and stars Jodie Foster, Sharlto Copley, Wagner Moura, Alice Braga, and William Fitchner.

The trailer will debut tonight, so make sure you return to MC to check it out.

In the year 2159 two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes (Jodie Foster), a hard line government official will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn’t stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky Max (Matt Damon) is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.
