International Trailer for Ain’t Them Bodies Saints With Casey Affleck & Rooney Mara

IFC Films has released an international trailer for their critically acclaimed drama, Ain’t Them Bodies Saints Written and directed by David Lowery, the trailer teases at a tantalizing feature-length debut with some powerful performances from its cast.

The film centres on two Texan lovers separated after a shoot-out, one of whom later escapes from prison and sets out across the Texas hills to reunite with his wife and the daughter he has never met.

The film stars Rooney Mara, Casey Affleck, Ben Foster, Nate Parker, Rami Malek and Keith Carradine.  Sebastian Doggart, a film reviewer from The Guardian, gave the film five stars: “Director and writer David Lowery avoids every cliche from the action-thriller, romance and noir handbooks, transmitting a palpable sense of the pain caused by forced absence from a loved one. [...] The film is so singular, it’s hard to place. At times, its elegiac visual quality evokes Terrence Malick, but Lowery’s scripting is tighter and more accessible. His is truly a fresh voice, exhilarating to hear.”

Ain’t Them Bodies Saints has been around for several months, having participated on the film festival since January.  It’s official theatrical release is on August 16th.

Writer/director David Lowery (Deadroom, St. Nick) weaves this poetic drama centered on the journey of a notorious outlaw who breaks out of prison to reunite with his beloved wife, and the daughter he’s never met. Bob Muldoon and Ruth Guthrie were two outlaws on the run when their crime spree came to a sudden end deep in the Texas hills. When the gun smoke cleared following a shootout with police, a local officer lay critically wounded by deadeye Ruth. Determined to save his love from getting thrown behind bars, however, Bob claims responsibility for the shot, and receives a stiff prison sentence. A few years later, when Bob learns that Ruth has given birth to their daughter, he makes a daring escape, and flees to be with them at any cost.
