We’ll be talking on this week’s podcast episode about the importance of biopics & what makes certain films in the genre stronger than others. With jOBS being released this week in theatres, the next big biopic that’s likely to get loads of press is Diana, starring Naomi Watts as the Princess of Wales. The teaser trailer for this film didn’t look promising. It depicted a movie that was going to suffer from less interesting biographical formula. This new international trailer, however, shows off more of the story, and it’s all the better for it.
Diana is a unique biopic because it only focuses on the last two years of her life, after she divorced from Prince Charles. Dodi Fayed, the man who was in the car with Diana that crashed in that fateful Paris tunnel, is only the focus for the story’s conclusion. Instead, the filmmakers decided to focus on the passionate pursuits that Diana had always declared a priority, in the midst of which, she falls in love with a heart surgeon, played by Naveen Andrews.
Biopics are tricky things, so this dissection of one small but important part of Diana’s life will be interesting to watch. The film is scheduled for a world premiere in London on September 5th, followed by a wide release on September 20th. Given Diana’s international popularity, this film will likely be seen by audiences around the world.
