Five New Clips From Captain Phillips Starring Tom Hanks

Sony has released a new set of 5 clips for director Paul Greengrass’ new film Captain Phillips.  The based on a true story pic centers around seasoned ship captain Richard Phillips who volunteered himself to be taken by Somali pirates in 2009 in exchange for the safety of his crew.

The movie is receiving positive reviews in particular Tom Hanks’ performance, which is being hailed as Oscar nomination worthy.  Greengrass has proven he can direct effective thrillers in with real-life characters.  The wildcard is the unknown cast of Somali pirates, if they can be portrayed as characters and not just generic villains.  Either way, I’ll be seeing this as soon as I can, with my Team Hanks shirt on.

Columbia Pictures’ action-thriller Captain Phillips stars two-time Oscar® winner Tom Hanks in the true story of Captain Richard Phillips and the 2009 hijacking by Somali pirates of the US-flagged MV Maersk Alabama, the first American cargo ship to be hijacked in two hundred years. The film is directed by Oscar® nominee Paul Greengrass, from a screenplay by Billy Ray and based upon the book, A Captain’s Duty: Somali Pirates, Navy SEALs, and Dangerous Days at Sea, by Richard Phillips with Stephan Talty. The film is produced by Scott Rudin, Dana Brunetti, and Michael De Luca.
