Lionsgate has released the first trailer for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. In the second film of the franchise, Katniss and Peeta are stripped of their respective victory riches and are put back into the arena to battle all the past victors in a new type of the Hunger Games, known as the Quarter Quell.
Francis Lawrence (Water for Elephants, Constantine, I Am Legend) takes over directing duties from Gary Ross. This doesn’t really fall into my movie wheelhouse, but the first Hunger Games film is as good as the young adult, romance, Sci-Fi genre has ever been. The trailer has been online for less than 24 hours and has already been watched over 2 million times.
The cast includes Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Sam Claflin, Elizabeth Banks, Woody Harrelson, Donald Sutherland, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Jena Malone, Jeffrey Wright, and Amanda Plummer.
THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever.
