Paranoia is a brand new tech thriller written by Barry L. Levy and Jason Dean Hall, directed by Robert Luketic (The Killers, Legally Blonde). The film, based on the novel by Joseph Finder, follows the story of Adam Cassidy, whose prank jeopardizes his job at a tech corporation. He’s given a second chance by agreeing to go undercover in an assignment involving corporate espionage.
This genre is new territory for Luketic who, unfortunately, serves as a pretty big red flag here. This trailer is promising, despite convincing me that this will have a check-your-brain-at-the-door kind of story execution. The saving grace? Gary Oldman vs. Harrison Ford. We might still see some fun stand-offs between the two screen legends. But c’mon! Richard Dreyfuss as an oxygen tank-huffing old man who’s gonna be stuck in a recliner the entire film? What a waste.
Let’s just hope this isn’t remembered as the movie in which Harrison Ford shaved his head.
The film stars Liam Hemsworth, Gary Oldman, Harrison Ford, Lucas Till, Amber Heard, Embeth Davidtz, Julian McMahon, Josh Holloway and Richard Dreyfuss. It opens August 16th.
In this high-stakes thriller, Adam Cassidy (Liam Hemsworth) is an ambitious junior technologist trying to climb the ranks of telecom giant Wyatt Corporation. But after one costly mistake, Adam is blackmailed by ruthless CEO Nicholas Wyatt (Gary Oldman) to turn corporate spy by going to work for the firm’s top competitor, which is run by Wyatt’s old mentor, Jock Goddard (Harrison Ford). Adam soon finds himself delivered into prepackaged success, living his fantasy life of old-world boardrooms, private clubs, exotic cars, and all the spoils of Manhattan bachelorhood. However, behind the scenes, he is merely a pawn in Wyatt’s power play, and must search for a way out from under his boss, who will stop at nothing, even murder, to gain a multi-billion dollar advantage.
