Lionsgate has released the first trailer for the upcoming Linda Lovelace biopic, Lovelace. The film stars Amanda Seyfried as the title character who became infamous for starring in the most successful porn film of all-time, Deep Throat. The fallout transformed her into the most well-known and successful pornographic actress of all time, who eventually soured to the industry and became a spokeswoman for the anti-pornography movement.
The film premiered at Sundance to mediocre reviews, although with most noting Amanda Seyfried’s performance as one of the best of the year. Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman direct a script written by Andy Bellin, based on Eric Danville’s biography, The Complete Linda Lovelace.
The cast includes Peter Sarsgaard, Sharon Stone, Juno Temple, Wes Bentley, Hank Azaria, Bobby Cannavale, Chris Noth, Robert Patrick, James Franco, Eric Roberts, Adam Brody, Chloe Sevigny and Sarah Jessica Parker.
In 1972—before the internet, before the porn explosion—Deep Throat was a phenomenon: the first scripted pornographic theatrical feature film, featuring a story, some jokes, and an unknown and unlikely star, Linda Lovelace. Escaping a strict religious family, Linda discovered freedom and the high-life when she fell for and married charismatic hustler Chuck Traynor. As Linda Lovelace she became an international sensation—less centerfold fantasy than a charming girl-next-door with an impressive capacity for fellatio. Fully inhabiting her new identity, Linda became an enthusiastic spokesperson for sexual freedom and uninhibited hedonism. Six years later she presented another, utterly contradictory, narrative to the world—and herself as the survivor of a far darker story.
