First Trailer for John Turturro’s The Fading Gigolo Starring Woody Allen

The first trailer for John Turturro’s The Fading Gigolo is here! Turturro writes, directs and stars in the film about a florist-turned-gigolo and will be featured at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival.

Giving this film a little push for notoriety among film nerds is Woody Allen, who appears in front of the camera for the first time in over a decade (that is, in a film he didn’t direct).  Turturro and Allen play unlikely best buds, who team up to bring love and companionship to “the lonely”.  Allen, whose schtick is still loveable after so many years, plays Turturro’s matchmaker (or more accurately, his pimp).

The film also stars Bob Balaban, Vaness Paradis, Liev Schreiber, Sharon Stone and Sofia Vergara.  Let’s hope this one gets picked up at TIFF 2013 for a wider release.

Woody Allen plays as bookseller-turned-pimp to John Turturro’s middle-aged neophyte hustler, in actor-writer-director Turturro’s inspired left-field comedy. The premise is as inspired as it is absurd, and Turturro carries it off with his own affecting and surprisingly romantic vision of New York City.
