The first trailer has surfaced online for director Gary Fleder’s (Runaway Jury, Don’t Say A Word) upcoming action film Homefront. The film is an adaptation of Chuck Logan’s novel and written for screen by Sylvester Stallone, centering around a widowed former DEA agent (Jason Statham) who moves to a peaceful small town. Things go awry when his daughter has a run in a at school which gets him tangled up with the local meth kingpin.
It isn’t quite Heisenberg but I’m always up for watching Jason Statham smack people around and everything here looks lined up for a solid Statham action flick. The wildcard is Franco, who doesn’t really strike fear into me but give the man a little scruff and who knows. Everyone else in the cast looks straight out of the common sense casting book.
Like most Statham (and Stallone) movies it has a throwback appeal and seems like something that would have been a huge hit in the 80’s and early 90’s. Not so much in 2013, where audiences want a different type of action flick. Now we have a plethora of superhero films and don’t generally rush to theaters to see the ‘regular guy superhero‘ that helped make Harrison Ford and Arnold box office juggernauts once upon a time.
The supporting cast includes Kate Bosworth, Winona Ryder, Rachelle Lafevre, Clancy Brown, Omar Benson Miller and Frank Grillo.
