Marvel has released the first trailer for directing duo Joe and Anthony Russo’s upcoming Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The film picks up after The Avengers, as Steve Rogers struggles to embrace his role in the modern world. I wasn’t (and am still not) that impressed with the trailers for Thor 2 - I think the movie will be fine but, the trailer didn’t mesmerize. This trailer is magnificent – I don’t need to see anything else and for me, this just became the most anticipated movie of next summer.
There is a degree of brand loyalty the Marvel Universe, so I don’t foresee any of these films not making a ton of cash. From a Hollywood business angle, you don’t get a much safer bet. This fact has allowed Marvel to not only turn out sequels, but to use established characters to springboard new characters and keep the wheel indefinitely turning. Enter this Captain America sequel…introducing a whole new supporting cast.
Lots of interesting things and new characters in this trailer. The mysterious Winter Soldier catching Cap’s shield with his one (bionic) hand; Falcon soaring with his wings; Robert Redford as a potentially menacing politician; Captain America’s traditional values versus the increasingly grey area in which S.H.I.E.LD. and the Avengers operate.
On a side note, helicarriers seem to be a terrible investment.
The cast includes Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Cobie Smulders, Frank Grillo, Emily Van Camp, Hayley Atwell and Robert Redford. It opens in theatres April 4th.
After the cataclysmic events in New York with The Avengers, Marvel’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” finds Steve Rogers, a.k.a. Captain America, living quietly in Washington, D.C. and trying to adjust to the modern world. But when a S.H.I.E.L.D. colleague comes under attack, Steve becomes embroiled in a web of intrigue that threatens to put the world at risk. Joining forces with the Black Widow, Captain America struggles to expose the ever-widening conspiracy while fighting off professional assassins sent to silence him at every turn. When the full scope of the villainous plot is revealed, Captain America and the Black Widow enlist the help of a new ally, the Falcon. However, they soon find themselves up against an unexpected and formidable enemy—the Winter Soldier.
