Jimmy Kimmel Live! was the forum for the world premiere of The Guardians of the Galaxy trailer last night. The wait was worth it. Despite any expectations of the filmmakers, this trailer hits the mark.
The film stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista and the voices of Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel (not heard in the trailer) as five outlaws who call themselves The Guardians of the Galaxy. Having seen the leaked Comic-Con 2013 trailer, I recognized a lot of the footage. I think they used the same songs, too. This trailer gives you a perfect idea of the film’s tone and sense of humour. Director James Gunn (Super) has nailed it: this movie had to be a little tongue-in-cheek, else the majority of audiences probably wouldn’t entertain the idea of watching a tree, a raccoon, a former wrestler, Andy from Parks and Rec, and the…”wait, who’s that? Is that the girl from Star Trek?” It seems that there’s a lot of people on the web who still think this movie is a gamble for Marvel. But, this trailer will likely start to convert any naysayers.
We also get a solid look at Karen Gillan as Nebula and Benicio Del Toro as The Collector (whom you would have seen in the after-credit sequence following Thor 2). They can also be seen in the twelve new images below. Also, if you’re not familiar with how The Guardians fit into the Marvel mythos, check out the synopsis below or click here.
Guardians of the Galaxy will hit theatres in 3D on August 1st, 2014.
From Marvel, the studio that brought you the global blockbuster franchises of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers, comes a new team – the Guardians of the Galaxy. An action-packed epic space adventure, Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits – Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Peter discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand – with the galaxy’s fate in the balance. Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” is presented by Marvel Studios. The film releases August 1, 2014, and is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.
