First Official Look At Ben Stiller in ‘The Secret Life of Walter Mitty’

Ben Stiller’s new film, in which he stars and directs, is called The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.  We’ve been interested in some of the set pictures we’ve seen, but today, we’ve got our first official image.  Keep your eye out for a poster and new trailer, which will no doubt soon follow.

The film is a re-imagining of the 1947 film starring Danny Kaye, which in turn was based on a short story written by James Thurber, published in ’39.  Details between the versions vary and evolve, but the essentials are still there: a story that follows a mild-mannered man with dreams of heroism and adventure.  Sort of like a modern day Don Quixote.

Ben Stiller stars as Mitty, while Kristen Wiig co-stars as the woman he admires.  The rest of the cast includes Shirley MacLaine, Patton Oswalt, Adam Scott and Kathryn Hahn.

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty was written by Steve Conrad (The Pursuit of Happyness) and is set to hit theatres Christmas Day 2013.

"The Secret Life of Walter Mitty"

In this comedic adaptation of James Thurber’s short story, Ben Stiller stars as Walter, a milquetoast proofreader for a magazine publishing firm. Walter is constitutionally incapable of standing up for himself, so he retreats into his fantasy world, where he is heroic, poised, self-assured, and the master of his fate. Stiller directs from a script bySteven Conrad, with Kristen Wiig, Patton Oswalt, and Shirley MacLaine rounding out the starring cast.
