I hope you’re ready for more of Stallone’s Ignoring-Forced-Retirement Campaign for all aging action stars. With Grudge Match, we are being exposed to all the sweat & heart palpitations of Raging Bull actor Robert De Niro and Rocky franchise captain Sylvester Stallone entering the boxing ring to go head to head.
Man, I really hope this film isn’t in 3D.
So, of course, the entire backbone of this film is a little gimmicky. Actually, it’s a lot gimmicky. Boxing was the sport that help put both of these stars on the Hollywood map back in the day. In Stallone’s case, the Rocky films became one too many. For De Niro, his performance in Raging Bull is considered to be one of history’s best examples of method acting. To see them back in the ring at their age, seems both far-fetched but oddly, a little nostalgic. I’m intrigued.
Doug Ellin (Entourage) was the last screenwriter to draft the script, which will be directed by Peter Segal (Get Smart, The Longest Yard). The film also stars Jon Bernthal, Alan Arkin, Kevin Hart, and Kim Basinger. The story focuses on two retired boxers (yeah, I’m sure you already figured that one out) who return to the ring to settle a long-standing beef. It is not a comedy.
Plan for its sweaty, wrinkly release on November 15th, 2013. I’m a sucker, so I’ll be interested in seeing this.[raw][image align="center"]http://thefilmstage.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/Grudge-Match.jpg[/image][/raw]
