First Images From Kill The Messenger Starring Jeremy Renner

Kill The Messenger is a film that’s directed by Homeland executive producer Michael Cuesta.  The project was announced only a few months ago, and today we get our first images of Jeremy Renner in the lead role playing journalist Gary Webb.

The story is based on Webb’s book “Dark Alliance: The CIAs, The Contras, and The Crack Cocaine Explosion”.  It centres on the Agency’s smear campaign against Webb when he uncovers the government’s scheme to arm Contra rebels in Nicaragua and to import cocaine into California.

This sounds like it has Insider-like appeal – a pump-your-fist for the just, kinda movie.  Cuesta has certainly proved he can direct tense episodes of Homeland that make one’s butt clench, so I’m excited.

Joining Renner are Tim Blake Nelson, Oliver Platt, Michael Sheen, Robert Patrick, Barry Pepper, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Andy Garcia, and Rosemarie DeWitt.  Focus Features will distribute the film sometime in 2014.
