With two back-to-back episodes of Cinema Sins’ “Everything Wrong With…” it’s clear that while the first two X-Men films directed by Bryan Singer were somewhat of a watershed moment for Marvel & comic book movies in general, they are not without their problems.
I’m particularly delighted by the dissection of Brett Ratner’s The Last Stand who, just for saying his name, gets a lot of fanboy flak. The truth is, many of the problems related to the last of the original trilogy were not necessarily all within his control. Circumstances dictated a lot of last minute, head-scratching plot points. However, it’s many of the shortcuts allowed under his direction that made The Last Stand feel less like like final battle, and more like a big fat reason to make continue the franchise to erase it from our memories.
