Raiders of the Lost Ark: Source Material Edition

During this week’s podcast we talked about the similarities between Steve Spielberg’s latest film The Adventures of Tintin and his Indiana Jones Franchise and Spielberg’s affection for movies in this time frame and this type of action adventure film.  Someone with an amazing catalogue of film has put together a side-by-side comparison of the opening sequence of Raiders of the Lost Ark using footage from other adventure movies made previously to Raiders.

I don’t think the makers of this are insinuating that George Lucas and Spielberg are hacks or are ripping off other movies.  If these clips were just from one or two movies that would be one thing, but they are taking clips from 30 other films. It shows the love that they have of this genre of film.  Spielberg and Lucas were always up front about Raiders being homage to these old adventure serials and flicks that they grew up with.  Just like J.J. Abrams did with last summers Super 8.

Julianne Moore channels her inner Tina Fey, I mean Sarah Palin

I am a big fan of HBO films the critical acclaim that they achieve is unparalleled.   HBO films received 23 nominations at this year’s Emmys, the network as a hole received 104 nominations which was the most of any network for the 11th straight year.

The first teaser of HBO films Game Change has made its way to the World Wide Web.  The film is based on the best-selling book of the same name written by John Heilemann and Mark Halperin. Danny Strong is adapting the book and Jay Roach is directing reuniting the duo who worked together on HBO’s Emmy and Golden Globe winning Recount.

Synopsis:

Starring Julianne Moore, Woody Harrelson and Ed Harris, HBO Films’ GAME CHANGE follows John McCain’s (Harris) 2008 presidential campaign, from his selection of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin (Moore) as his running mate to their ultimate defeat in the general election.  Harrelson portrays Steve Schmidt, McCain’s senior campaign strategist.

Julianne Moore is great, but where’s Tina?
