I’ve been curious to see this trailer for Joss Whedon’s adaptation of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing. It’s been several months since we posted anything about the project, which was shot immediately after Whedon wrapped on The Avengers.
I’m no Shakespeare nut, nor would I ever pretend I know much about his massive catalogue of work beyond what I learned in high school. Nevertheless, what excites me about this project is the level of intimacy and independence with which it was produced. Only Whedon could go from being in charge of the highest grossing movie of 2012 to directing a black-and-white film in Shakespearean verse, in his own house. In addition, Whedon cast only his friends. Being that Much Ado About Nothing focuses its story on the love, anger, happiness and despair amongst a large group of friends, I really think you’ll see some special chemistry on screen.
Much Ado About Nothing will receive a limited theatre release on June 7. It stars Clark Gregg, Tom Lenk, Ashley Johnson, Reed Diamond, Riki Lindhorne, Sean Maher and Whedon regular Nathan Fillion.
