Thanks to some new official images from Joon-ho Bong’s Snowpiercer, we’re getting a wider glimpse into the dismal world of this future. The story, which focuses on a globe-spanning locomotive that traverses the Earth after a failed experiment to stop global warming, is also very political. Survivors from all races and belief systems crowd the train cars and attempt to overthrow the totalitarian micro-government that controls it.
You can see only a few of the cast members in these photos, including Jamie Bell and Tilda Swinton. Our source, however, states that if you look closely, you’ll be able to spot pages from the French graphic novel upon which the film is based.
Snowpiercer will be released in the USA sometime during 2013.
The film is set in a future where, after a failed experiment to stop global warming, an ice age has killed off nearly all life on the planet. The only survivors are the inhabitants of the ‘Snowpiercer’, a massive train that travels around the planet and is powered by a perpetual-motion engine. Over time a class system evolves on the train, with the elites inhabiting the ‘front’ of the train and poor inhabiting the ‘back’ of the train. Tired of the poor conditions suffered by riders in the ‘back’, a revolution occurs with the riders attempting to seize control of the engine which the elites in the ‘front’ consider ‘sacred’.
